There's a particular kind of Sunday afternoon magic that happens when you sit down with a cup of something warm, open your planner, and actually feel ready for the week ahead.
It doesn't take long. It doesn't require perfection. It just requires a few minutes of intentional thought — and a planner you actually want to open.
Here's how to build a Sunday reset ritual that works.
1. Pick a time and make it yours
The Sunday reset works best when it's a ritual rather than a chore. Pick a time that feels natural — maybe after your morning coffee, or right after lunch before the afternoon slips away. Keep it consistent week to week so it becomes something you look forward to rather than something you remember to do at 11pm on Sunday night.
2. Do a brain dump first
Before you touch your planner, grab a spare piece of paper or a sticky note and write down everything that's sitting in your head. Undone tasks, things you're worried about, things you're excited about, random to-dos that have been floating around since Tuesday. Get it all out. Once it's on paper it stops taking up mental space — and you can decide what actually needs to go in your planner.
3. Review last week without judgment
Flip back to last week. Look at what you accomplished — not what you didn't finish. Give yourself credit for every checked box, every completed task, every small win. Then make a note of anything that needs to carry forward. The goal isn't to feel bad about the undone things. It's to acknowledge the done ones first.
4. Plan for energy, not just time
When you fill in your week ahead, think about what kind of energy each task requires — not just when you have a free slot. High focus tasks belong in your peak hours. Admin tasks can fill the gaps. Leave breathing room between the big things. A week planned around your energy feels manageable. A week packed to capacity feels suffocating before it's even started.
5. Add one thing you're looking forward to
Every week should have at least one thing in it that you're genuinely excited about. A game night. A good book. A long walk. A new recipe. Write it in your planner the same way you'd write a meeting — because it matters just as much. A week with something to look forward to is a week worth showing up for.
6. Close the loop on last week's small wins
Before you put the planner down take thirty seconds to acknowledge one small win from the past week. Just one. Write it down if you want to. Say it out loud if that feels right. Small wins compound — and the ones you notice are the ones that motivate the next ones.
7. Set one intention for the week
Not a goal. Not a task. An intention. Something like "I want to be more present this week" or "I'm going to protect my mornings" or "I'm choosing progress over perfection." Write it at the top of your weekly planner page where you'll see it every day. Goals tell you what to do. Intentions remind you how you want to show up while you're doing it.
8. Make it beautiful
This one sounds frivolous but it isn't. If your planner feels like a chore to look at, you won't look at it. Add a sticker. Use your favorite pen. Write your intention in a different color. Take thirty seconds to make the page feel like yours. The more your planner reflects your personality the more it becomes something you protect time for rather than something you avoid.
